My tagline….A Generation X’er who likes to ask questions, be part of changing the rules and creating solutions to the transition of leadership in the non-profit and public sectors.
More about me…..I have worked in the non-profit and public sector for close to twenty years. I have served in every capacity, from volunteer grunt jobs to Executive Director, publicly elected board member to non-profit consultant. I am generally the token GenX’er on the boards upon which I serve as well as one of few Executive Directors among my peers. Being in the minority is cool, I am accustomed to being the blonde in a sea of grey…but it does beg the question of who will be left standing when all the grey’s retire? And how are we changing the culture of non-profits and the public sector to recruit and retain the best and brightest of my generation?
Why I started this blog.….I want dialogue and validation that I’m not alone. Of course, I also want to laugh a little. X’ers have a decidedly different approach to leadership, change and organizational development. How the non-profit & public sectors can capitalize on this while negotiating the upcoming leadership changes of the grey’s as they retire is the focus of the dialogue I seek. I am confident X’ers will continue to not only negotiate the change, but also successfully change the culture of both sectors. So read on and share your thoughts or email me (vanessa@vconsults.com) if you prefer more private dialogue. -Vanessa
